Happy New Year: It's been a while!

Hello there and welcome to 2022.

All the Lottery-bid team at St. Peter's wish you all the very best for the coming year. We are looking forward to it with excitement and anticipation as the project enters it's endgame and we can look forward to all the new opportunities that the changes will bring to us, the congregation, our visitors and the people of Wisbech. Can't wait!

To open the New Year, I was recently handed a nondescript envelope by one of our Churchwardens, but inside there turned out to be treasure that I wanted to share! These are some old photographs taken from the tower of St. Peter's giving a panoramic view of the town. Excellent stuff. So here they are.

Here is the view looking north over the market place.

Looking south over the churchyard towards the Church hall (before the trees were chopped). Also a view of the roof that has now been replaced. Interestingly, St. Peter's is unique in England for having a roof that spans 2 aisles. The footprint of the building is short and fat as the sea wall was at the end of the chancel. The medieval builders couldn't go longways, so they went sideways instead.

The Market Place again with the Baptist Church and part of the Horsefair in view.

The view to the west which shows part of the Crescent and the castle with the beautiful Georgian terraces of North Brink

And finally, as an ex-bellringer, this is a lovely view inside the bell tower where the magic happens!

With grateful thanks to Robert for taking the photos and sharing them and to Graham Leach for all the hard work in getting the photos digitally enhanced!
